FC Barcelona right their wrongs with another 3 points on the weekend after defeating Celta Vigo 4-2
FC Barcelona
The Catalans captured a valiant 4-2 result over Celta de Vigo at Estadio de Balaidos last Sunday to close the gap on Real Madrid's 1st place lead in La Liga. All eyes were on Barca's Robert Lewandowski who opened the scoring with a 10' penalty kick, although Celta Vigo's Sergio Carreira responded immaculately in the 11' with a quick tuck away goal stemming from a counter attack. Lewandowski gave the Catalans the lead again in the 37' before Celta Vigo's Borja Iglesias scored the critical equalizer just before the half in the 43'. Barca's Lamine Yamal blasted home a 45+4' finish to steal the 3-2 lead at the half. In the 73' Lewandowski claimed the match ball with his hat trick to propel the Catalans in 2nd place with 28 points. Frenkie de Jong will be suspended for the next match against Athletic Club, as he exited the game in the game with his second yellow card in the 90+5'.
Real Madrid
Real Madrid ended the weekend in frustration, finishing their first game of the season scoreless. Vallecano played with heart, totaling 11 shots against the Royal Whites. Madrid did dominate the game stats though, firing off 13 shots with 5 on target, yet none to enter the back of the net, ending Kylian Mbappe's scoring streak. The Royal White also possessed the ball for 55% of the game, yet to no avail, although Thibaut Courtois added another clean sheet to his belt. Real Madrid dropped 2 points as a result leaving them in 1st with 31 points instead of 33, which gives Barcelona a chance to catch up with 27 games left in the La Liga season.
The international break begins this week as the European nations press on with qualifications for the FIFA 2026 World Cup. Stay tuned for La Liga match day 13 which resumes November 21, followed by more UEFA Champions League.
