City play spectacularly against Liverpool to procure 3 points and solidify a 2nd place spot in the Premier League before the international break.
Manchester City
Manchester City are reveling in success with their recent 3-0 shutout win over last year's league champions of Liverpool. City's Erling Haaland headed home the opener in the 29' after Liverpool's Mamardashvili made a spectacular save on the Norwegian's 12' penalty. Nico Gonzalez added the insurance goal in the 45+3' and Man-of-the-Match Jeremy Doku finished a top-class curler in the 63' to seal the game. City saw total domination with 17 shots, 6 on target to Liverpool's 7 shots, 1 on target. The Sky Blues sit in 2nd place just 4 points behind Arsenal, with Liverpool set back to 8th place, as player's head to back to their home countries for international break.
Arsenal
Surprisingly, Arsenal not only dropped points to 4th place Sunderland over the weekend, but they gave up 2 of their 5 total goals allowed this season, with Sunderland's Daniel Ballard opening the scoring in the 36'. Bukayo Saka found a 54' goal to draw the score line, before Leandro Trossard seemingly won it for the Gunners in the 74'. Brian Brobbey was the hero of the day for Sunderland with a 90+4' finish to take back a point. The Gunners looked the better team with 16 shots, 6 on target, and 67% possession, but the atmosphere at Stadium of Light and the grit shown by Sunderland made it hard to scrape out 3 points. The Gunners still lead the Premier League with 26 points as we head into the international break.
Chelsea
Chelsea have made an impressive comeback on the standings with 4 wins in their last 5 games to now sit at 3rd place with 20 points. This weekend, the Blues downed the last place Wolverhampton Wanderers in a crushing 3-0 shutout win. All goals came in the 2nd half, led by Malo Gusto in the 51' followed by Joao Pedro in the 65', and Pedro Neto in the 73'. Chelsea carried out comfortable domination with 18 shots, 7 on target, and 64% possession, adding to their clean sheet tally as well entering the break at a respectable 3rd place after 11 games.
The international break ensues for many European nations to continue qualifications for the FIFA 2026 World Cup. Stay tuned for EPL match week 12 which comes back November 22 proceeded by more UEFA Champions League.
